Your First Reformer Class at Wild Hare Pilates

Welcome to Wild Hare Pilates! If you are planning on visiting our Pilates reformer studio for the first time, we have some helpful tips for you to have a smooth and successful Pilates session with us in Lake Balboa. We are so happy that you have found us and can’t wait to work with you!

Arrive Early

To ensure that you have enough time to find us and set up your reformer station, you should try to arrive 10-15 minutes before the class. It can be a little tricky to find us if you are not familiar with this area.

Look for the Tru Fit Bootcamp Building

We are located within the Tru Fit Bootcamp facility. We are on the corner of Balboa and Stagg, but you can only enter parking on Balboa Blvd. If you are coming from north San Fernando Valley (Northridge, Granada Hills, Lake Balboa, Chatsworth, Sylmar), you will be coming southbound on Balboa Blvd., and we will be on your left-hand side. If you are coming from the South of San Fernando Valley (Encino, Van Nuys, Sherman Oaks, Tarzana), you will be coming northbound on Balboa Blvd., and we will be on your right-hand side.

Introduce Yourself to the Instructor

If there is a class going on, the door will be closed. When the door opens, feel free to enter and introduce yourself to the instructor. Let them know that it is your first time at Wild Hare Pilates and if this is your first time doing Pilates. We have clients coming in with years of experience to no experience at all. Most of our classes are for All Levels, so you will fit in no matter what your experience is.

Get to Know Your Reformer

After you have introduced yourself to your Pilates instructor, they will go over the equipment and show you how to use various parts of the reformer. You do not have to worry about remembering all of the information your Pilates instructor tells you. This information is to help you start becoming familiar with the reformer and other Pilates equipment. Your Pilates instructor will be guiding you throughout the entire class.  Since we are a small Pilates studio, with only six reformers, we are able to monitor and assist all clients easily and make corrections when needed.

Inform Your Instructor if You Have Any Body Injuries, Limitations, or Concerns

Pilates is for all bodies. We can always make modifications for your individual needs. Let your Pilates instructor know if there are any body restrictions or concerns you have before the class starts so that your Pilates instructor can show you modifications before or during the class. No two clients are ever the same, so it is important that you listen to your body and make any adjustments needed. Though we are a group class, we are all unique individuals. With our intimate studio setting, our Pilates instructors can cater to each and every one of our clients’ individual needs.

Wear Comfortable Clothing that Allows for Movement

Reformer Pilates classes work in all three planes of movement. Pilates involves dynamic exercises and active stretching throughout the class. Grip socks are strongly encouraged.

For safety and hygiene, we strongly recommend wearing socks that have grippy texture on the bottom. You can purchase them before class or at our studio.

Stay Hydrated

Bring a water bottle and keep it close by your reformer. Even though Pilates is low impact exercise, it is still a workout. Some of our classes are more high intensity than others, as are some of our Pilates exercises.

Ask Questions

Your Pilates instructors are there to help you. We want to ensure that you feel comfortable in class. We encourage you to ask questions in class if you are confused about the movement or which muscles the Pilates exercise is targeting. Though you may feel shy in your first reformer Pilates class, we hope that you become more comfortable by the end of the class. We want to provide you with an open and fun Pilates experience, and we hope that you become a part of the Wild Hare Pilates family!

Enjoy!

If you have never done reformer Pilates class before, it will feel very different from all other forms of exercise you have ever done in the past.  Some of our positions will feel strange at times but remember to have fun with it and enjoy this new way of training your body and your mind!
